Mug for Parkinson's Patients
TU Delft, The Netherlands
Project Overview
Vision
Constant tremors in the hands of Parkinson's patients due to loss of motor control hampers their ability to perform the most basic activities and thus leading a life of dignity and independence.
Hydration among Parkinson's patients is a known problem where patients, due to hand tremors cannot consume or enjoy beverages that do not demand the use of a straw. So, sipping on a soothing cup of tea is an arduous and messy process.
This project aims to restore confidence and unsevered dignity through a gyroscopic self-stabilizing cup for Parkinson’s patients. This cup gyroscopically and electronically maintains its orientation and keeps the liquid inside still, while the handle is free to absorb the patient’s tremor. The cup could also be of use to patients with other muscular dystrophies.
